Black neighbors in the formerly upper middle class South Shore of Chicago

now shop in the suburbs, sell or close their distraught businesses,

speed through red lights past carjackers, and bury bullet riddled children.

The Shocking Apostles of Awe -- killing, robbing, raping gangbangers --

control South Shore like loosed demons.

The Mayor doesn't dare stop them, he can't;

he wears power suits and they let him pretend he matters.

When the police interfere with the Apostles, the Mayor fires them,

or else he's just another dead man running.

Shopkeepers Isaiah, Kameron, and Quintessence fight back...fiercely.

And, oddly, they stay alive; but, it doesn't matter until they survive long enough

to hire seven pistoleros from south of the border.
